About

Thanks for stopping by!

I am an Occupational Therapist, Certified Canadian Life Care Planner, and Ph.D. Candidate in Health & Rehabilitation Sciences at Western University in London, Canada.

My interests blend occupational therapy practice, research, and teaching. My clinical work focuses on occupational therapy assessment, rehabilitation, and life care planning for adults with complex injuries arising from motor vehicle collisions (MVCs).

My research is based in the i-Mobile Driving Research Lab, in the School of Occupational Therapy at Western University. My work primarily focuses on evaluating the driving performance of at-risk drivers, such as shift workers experiencing sleep deprivation, or, drivers post-MVC who struggle with driving-related anxiety.

My work is prevention-oriented:  how can we improve driving performance in at-risk drivers, and thereby, reduce the number of motor vehicle collisions in at-risk populations?

My secondary research interests pertain to my clinical practice, and focus on expert witness testimony for occupational therapists, and, best practices for Canadian Life Care Planners. My goal here is simple: what are ways that I can support best practices for occupational therapists and life care planners providing expert witness reports and/or testimony on behalf of those injured in MVC?

My teaching focuses on the occupational therapy curriculum and blends my background in clinical practice and research. Since 2017, I have taught an Intensive in Private Practice for second-year MScOT students at Western University. This brief, intense course focuses on conceptualizing occupational therapy private practice, marketable skills, entrepreneurship and business planning, with an in-depth focus on auto insurance, expert witness testimony, and life care planning. I have enjoyed the opportunity to work as a Teaching Assistant for a number of courses, and as a sessional instructor.

For more information on my clinical practice, research publications and presentations, and teaching, please see the dedicated pages on each.

Cheers,
Melissa
